What is the Free Market?
PETERBOROUGH/NOGOJIWANONG, Ontario – For the past 20 years, OPIRG (Ontario Public Interest Research Group) Peterborough has been running the Free Market, a program for all Trent University students and Peterborough community members to access clothing, books, and small household items for free.
Our Mandate
The Free Market working group exists to create a consistent, reliable space for the Peterborough/ Nogojiwanong community to access resources of clothes and books in an accessible, non-oppressive space. The Free Market exists to subvert capitalism and nurture sustainability, waste reduction, and environmental awareness.
Community Pop-Ups
For the past few years, OPIRG Peterborough has been hosting Free Market Pop-Ups in place of regular hours in our Sadleir House office space. It has been incredible to see the support of the community throughout this transition. We’ve steadily received donations and our pop-ups have seen hundreds of attendees facilitated by numerous generous volunteers.
We will continue to offer these pop-ups at least 4 times a year in different accessible locations around Nogojiwanong.
We value and hope to hear your input. If you are interested in getting involved or have any questions or comments, please contact us:
